This season is already off to a great start! We're in our first week of Girls on the Run and we are focusing on the finalizing details, sharing information, and getting to know the girls! This season, we have 16 girls, 2 junior coaches, 3 co-coaches, and 2 registered practice partners. I provided the girls with a practice calendar at the first meeting, along with an opt-out form for our website. If you DO NOT want your daughter to appear on this page, please sign and return it. We'll make sure to honor your wishes and post photos without her.
Runners who have asthma need to have an inhaler available at practice. We do not have access to the inhalers in the nurse's office and we really need to have them with us on our runs. If you need to work something out regarding an inhaler, please contact one of the coaches, as we will start running in the neighborhood next week.
The lesson during our first practice focused on learning names, setting expectations, and talking about what makes us unique! Due to the heat index, we ran in the halls and learned about avoiding the custodian's cart, keeping a respectful noise level for people still working, and setting a pace for ourselves to keep from burning our energy too quickly. We ended with energy awards!!! This may be the girls' favorite part of practice; it gives us an opportunity to honor the girls' effort and progress and support one another as we keep getting better! We have some great photos to share, but we'll wait to post them until Friday.
Thanks so much for joining the Girls on the Run family! This program means a lot to the coaches; we wish it had been available when we were this age! Please feel free to contact us with questions or concerns, and we'll keep updating our blog so you can see the wonderful things that the girls accomplish!
