For most of my career, I've taught little people how to read. I love little people. I love their excitement and enthusiasm, the stories they tell and the questions they ask. I love their random hugs, random compliments, and helpful hearts. I'll always love teaching little people, but an opportunity to grow as an educator presented itself and I jumped at the chance to move up. Big kids are not a mystery to me; I've coached Girls on the Run for a few years and I taught third grade for a while--I love the big kids too. I love their developing senses of humor, listening to their points of view, and asking them questions that make them think. I'm so excited about being able to delve deeper into teaching reading! Not just how to read, but how to think about what we read, how our experiences can make us feel differently about what we read, and how to LOVE reading. I'm sure this year will have challenges, but I am looking forward to a great new experience in fourth grade!
